Interview with 6ix4ever

Young Ontario based trio share their tips on starting out

Give an introduction to yourself, how you got into music, where you are today, and where you'd like to be.

We are a Canadian hip hop trio based out of Oakville ON, a small town just outside Toronto ON. Our group consists of members Brady Lukas (BurrBrady), Jack Mallette (Jack Jack) & Cole Sandford (Sandy) we bonded together in high school over our love for music. We are still living locally but would love to be one day traveling and inspiring the world. We currently have 33 thousand followers on Instagram, 1.85 million followers across our individual TikTok accounts, 12k subs on YouTube, and would love to double these stats by this year.

Tell us about your latest release, what's it about?

Our latest release is a nine-song project titled “Screaming Balloon” our hard work and mastery really went into this one and you can hear it from the moment you click play. The first track-inspired us to create what is an embodiment of teenage emotion and as some have said “made me feel like a kid again.”

“This album was made to be a weight off our chest, helium so we can be free. That's where the balloons came in.”

[BurrBrady] “Our creative process is so amazing because it's so natural and each time we step into that studio together something totally different comes of it. In this album, the diversity is insane so take a listen through all the tracks. Only then you will get the big picture”

[Jack Jack] Speaking of the big picture, from our perspective most-streamed songs are I'm Trying, Deep Waters, Screaming Balloon, The Big Picture, & Young Dumb, and Reckless! While recording the album I knew I wanted the artwork on this one to be grungy. The man portrayed is at his point of emotional freedom. His head is in the clouds seeing where the world takes him. Kinda dark if you think about it long enough.

How did you record it?

We have a home studio that suits us very nicely and saves a lot of money. That is our advice for anyone just starting, take the time to learn the things before you start dumping money into it. Once you feel ready financially and mentally make a move and turn a space into your dream studio.

How did you promote it?

We leaked the album throughout a bunch of vlogs we don't think people got the hint. Then we blacked out our Instagram which made people lose their minds, they thought we were done. A day later we start daily uploading to Instagram, high-quality photos shot by our homie @d.basa We also have merch available at www.6ix4ever.com

BurrBrady & Jack Jack

The music industry is in a state of flux right now, where do you see it heading?

We see the music heading in a groundbreaking direction for true creators. People who truly want to make good content and release good music for the general public now have more opportunities than ever to generate income.

What is your advice to other indie artists to help fund their work/produce music?

You have to invest in yourself at a good pace while also saving money for the future. You don’t want to be taking out loans and owing money it just makes everything worse. Get that home studio up and running!
